You can delete your Bento account at any time, from inside the app or by asking us. This page describes both routes and exactly what happens to your data. It is published for users and for the app stores that require it.
1. Delete from inside the app
- Open Bento and go to Profile → Settings.
- Tap Account → Delete account.
- Read what will be deleted. If you have a pending refund or an unused Dine Pass, the app tells you so you can use or cancel it first.
- Confirm with the one-time code sent to your phone.
Your account is deactivated immediately: you are signed out everywhere, your profile and content disappear from the feed, and nobody can find or message you. You have 14 days to change your mind by signing in again. After 14 days, deletion is permanent.
2. Delete by email
If you no longer have the app or cannot sign in, email privacy@createbento.in with the subject “Delete my account” and the mobile number the account is registered to. We will send a one-time code to that number to confirm it is you, then delete the account as above. We respond within 30 days, usually within 3 working days.
3. What is deleted
- Your profile: name, handle, photo, bio, preferences.
- Your phone number and sign-in credentials.
- Everything you posted: reels, photos, captions, comments, food diary.
- Your saved places, follows, friends and blocks.
- Location history, device identifiers and push tokens.
- Usage events tied to you. Aggregate statistics that cannot identify you are kept.
- Unused rewards and unclaimed credit, which are forfeited.
4. What we must keep, and for how long
Indian tax and company law require us to keep financial records even after an account is closed. We keep the following in a form that removes your name, handle and phone number wherever the law allows:
| Record | Kept for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Payments, refunds, Dine Passes and deposits | 8 years after the end of the financial year | Income-tax Act and Companies Act record-keeping |
| Creator payouts and tax deducted | 8 years | Tax law |
| Receipts and statements issued to you | 8 years | Tax law |
| Fraud or abuse findings | Up to 5 years | Preventing the same person from re-registering to repeat the abuse |
| Open disputes or legal holds | Until resolved | Legal obligation |
Backups are rotated within 90 days, after which no copy of deleted data remains.
5. Content that involves other people
Comments you left on other people's posts are removed. If another user reposted or saved your public content within Bento, it is removed with your account. Bento cannot recall content that someone copied outside Bento.
6. Deleting some data without deleting the account
You do not have to delete your account to remove things. In the app you can delete individual posts and comments, clear your food diary, turn off location and notifications, revoke camera and photo permissions in your phone's settings, and download a copy of your data from Settings → Privacy → Download my data. To object to a specific use of your data, write to privacy@createbento.in.
7. Restaurant and staff accounts
Restaurant owner and staff accounts are managed by the restaurant's owner in the partner dashboard. To close a restaurant account entirely, the owner writes to partners@createbento.in; settlement records are retained as above.
